Lime Garden is an indie rock band from Brighton hot off the release of their debut album "One More Thing." Distributed via UK label/magazine So Young Records, the all-female quartet's project is a culmination of the last four years. The group exclaims that when "it comes to the band, putting out an album, for all of us, is a huge, huge dream and putting out on a record label that we love is also so sick."
Not many can claim to have played international festivals and toured with the likes of indie powerhouses IDLES & Bombay Bicycle Club before releasing a debut album. Not to mention, they are wrapping up their UK headline tour tonight. For the four-piece group, it took a lot of innovation and hard work. Lime Garden has cultivated a style and genre that is entirely their own. Infusing pop, surf rock, disco, grunge, folk & shoegaze into their discography that heavily leans towards 2000s-era indie, Lime Garden finds themselves somewhere between namesake acts like The Breeders & Paramore and contemporary artists like The Japanese House & Wet Leg.
This characterization of their music was not just a conscious decision for the group, but a necessity. With an industry seemingly pit against them as women in music, the group worked to differentiate themselves with their discography. Coupled with raw and intimate lyrics and performances, Lime Garden has been paving the way for themselves and are able to serve as inspiration for other female musicians.
The Ali Chant (Perfume Genius, PJ Harvey) produced project is a series of dance-punk and indie sleaze nostalgia that unravels complicated topics like the regret they feel towards how they treated their mothers ("Mother"), the anxiety that comes with creating music as a DIY band ("Fears"), and not knowing whether they want to be with someone or just to be them ("I Want To Be You"). The outfit has already made great strides in their career, and with a US headline tour right around the corner in spring, they are just getting started.
