The Libertines are an English rock band formed in London in 1997 by frontmen Carl Barât and Pete Doherty, who both share lead vocals and guitar duties. The band’s core lineup also includes John Hassall on bass and Gary Powell on drums. Known for their energetic performances and raw, poetic lyrics, The Libertines played a pivotal role in the UK garage rock revival of the early 2000s. Their songwriting partnership, marked by a turbulent friendship and Doherty's struggles, has been central to their identity. They gained significant acclaim with albums like their self-titled "The Libertines" (2004), and despite periods of turmoil and hiatus, they have reunited and remain influential in alternative rock music.
