Terrace Martin, born December 28, 1978, in Los Angeles, is an acclaimed American musician, rapper, singer, and record producer renowned primarily for his production work on landmark albums like Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly and Snoop Dogg's R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece, blending jazz, hip-hop, R&B, and soul influences rooted in his South Central upbringing. A child prodigy who started on piano at age six and mastered the saxophone under mentors like Stemsy Hunter, he became first chair in the All-State Jazz Band at Locke High School, later touring with Puff Daddy and contributing to groups like West Coast Get Down, Dinner Party with Kamasi Washington and Robert Glasper, and launching his artist-first label Sounds of Crenshaw in 2016. His solo projects, including the Grammy-nominated Velvet Portraits (2016) featuring his father Curly Martin on drums, showcase his multifaceted talents as a performer and innovator, with ongoing collaborations for artists like YG, SZA, and Herbie Hancock.
