Tay-K, born Taymor Travon McIntyre in 2000, is an American former rapper best known for his viral 2017 hit "The Race," which peaked at number 44 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and became a cultural phenomenon due to its release while he was a fugitive. Raised in California and later Texas, Tay-K began his music career as part of the rap group Daytona Boyz before gaining solo fame. His notoriety grew as much from his music as from his criminal activity: he was arrested and ultimately convicted for his role in a 2016 home invasion and murder, and later received additional convictions and lengthy prison sentences. Despite his legal troubles, Tay-K’s raw style and the circumstances surrounding his breakout single have left a lasting impact on hip-hop culture.
