Tay Iwar, born Austin Iornongu Iwar Jnr on June 9, 1997, in Lagos, Nigeria, is a trailblazing singer, songwriter, producer, and sound engineer known for his innovative fusion of R&B, Afrobeat, and Alté sounds. Raised between Lagos and Abuja, he began creating music at the age of 14 and gained early recognition with his debut mixtape Passport in 2014. Over the years, Tay has solidified his reputation as a pioneer in Nigeria’s Alté movement with critically acclaimed projects like Gemini (2019) and collaborations with global stars such as Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Dave. His contributions to Wizkid’s Made in Lagos (Deluxe Edition) earned him Grammy recognition, while his work on the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack brought further acclaim. Known for his emotive lyricism and meticulous production, Tay continues to push creative boundaries with projects like his 2023 EP Summer Breeze, cementing his status as one of Africa’s most innovative musical talents.
