Sophie Ellis-Bextor, born on April 10, 1979, in London, is an English singer and songwriter who rose to fame in the late 1990s as the lead vocalist of the indie rock band Theaudience. She transitioned to a successful solo career in the early 2000s, achieving widespread recognition with her hit single "Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)" in 2000, which topped the UK charts. Her debut album, Read My Lips (2001), featured the iconic track "Murder on the Dancefloor" and showcased her unique blend of pop and dance music influenced by disco and electronic styles. Over the years, Ellis-Bextor has released seven studio albums and continues to captivate audiences with her distinct sound and vibrant performances, recently returning to her disco-pop roots with her latest single "Freedom of the Night" in October 2024.
