Social Distortion is an iconic American punk rock band formed in 1978 in Fullerton, California, by Mike Ness. Ness, born on April 3, 1962, in Stoneham, Massachusetts, is the band's only constant member and has been its driving force for over four decades. Social Distortion emerged from the Orange County hardcore scene, initially as a hardcore punk band, but later evolved to incorporate country, blues, and early rock and roll influences. The band's breakthrough came with their self-titled third album in 1990, which included hits like "Ball and Chain" and "Story of My Life," and was certified gold by the RIAA. Known for their energetic live performances and distinctive sound, Social Distortion has released seven studio albums and remains a significant influence in the punk rock genre.
