Slow Joy, the solo project of Esteban Flores, a 30-something Chicano singer-songwriter born in New Mexico and now based in Dallas, Texas, crafts emotionally raw indie rock blending grunge, shoegaze, emo, and "Southwest emo" vibes with melancholic, personal lyrics about grief and self-discovery. Flores launched the project in 2020 on his therapist's advice to process his mother's overdose death, reviving his teenage love for music after years of failed band pursuits and a full-time job, with early singles like "Crawling" and "Soft Slam" exploding on TikTok to millions of streams. Key releases include the 2023 album Wildflower, the 2024 EP Mi Amigo Slow Joy, and 2025's A Joy So Slow, earning praise for authentic storytelling and influences from Taking Back Sunday, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Dashboard Confessional, as he tours full-time and prioritizes emotional honesty over chasing hits.
