Polaris is a prominent Australian metalcore band from Sydney, formed in 2012 by drummer Daniel Furnari and bassist/vocalist Jake Steinhauser after meeting at a high school battle of the bands and bonding over a shared love of metal and alternative music. The current lineup features Jamie Hails (vocals), Rick Schneider (guitar), Jake Steinhauser (bass/vocals), and Daniel Furnari (drums). Known for blending intense metalcore with progressive, ambient, and electronic elements, Polaris crafts songs with melodic hooks and deeply personal lyrics that frequently address themes of anxiety, depression, and loss. Their critically acclaimed debut album, The Mortal Coil (2017), earned an ARIA nomination, followed by The Death of Me (2020) and their most recent release, Fatalism (2023), which was shaped in part by the tragic passing of guitarist Ryan Siew in June 2023. Despite adversity, Polaris has maintained a devoted following through passionate live performances and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of the metalcore genre.
