Penelope Road is an Atlanta-based five-piece band known for their self-described style of "stanky funky junk," blending elements of soul, jazz, 70s rock, and modern funk into a distinctive sound. The band members—Max Moore and Charles Eastman (co-lead vocalists), Koan Roy-Mieghoo (guitar, vocals), James Kopp (bass), and Anthony Smith (drums)—formed organically through shared history in high school and the local music scene. They named themselves after Penelope Road in Atlanta, where some members lived during their early days. Since releasing their self-titled EP in 2024, they've been gaining momentum with sophisticated songwriting, tight harmonies, and emotive performances. Penelope Road has signed to Warner Records and embarked on national tours, supporting notable acts like Lake Street Dive and Goose, positioning themselves as an exciting emerging band in the soul and funk-infused indie scene.
