Dijon Isaiah McFarlane, professionally known as Mustard (formerly DJ Mustard), is an influential American record producer, DJ, and musician born on June 5, 1990, in Los Angeles, California. Rising to prominence in the early 2010s, Mustard has become a pivotal figure in shaping the sound of contemporary hip-hop and R&B, particularly in the West Coast scene.
His production style, which he calls "ratchet music," is characterized by up-tempo, club-oriented beats featuring minimalist synths, heavy bass, and catchy hooks, often marked by his signature tag "Mustard on the beat, ho!". Mustard has produced chart-topping hits for numerous artists, including YG, Ty Dolla Sign, and Tyga, and has released his own albums as a solo artist. His influence extends beyond production, as he founded the record label 10 Summers Records in 2014 and has continued to evolve his sound, collaborating with a wide range of artists and contributing to the ever-changing landscape of urban music.
