Morat is a Colombian Latin pop and folk-pop band formed in Bogotá in 2015 by childhood friends Juan Pablo Isaza (vocals, guitar), Juan Pablo Villamil (vocals, banjo), Simón Vargas (bass, vocals), and Martín Vargas (drums, vocals). Initially called "Malta," they adopted the name "Morat" as their career took off. The band became internationally recognized with the release of “Mi Nuevo Vicio” (alongside Paulina Rubio) in 2015 and is renowned for blending catchy pop melodies with organic, acoustic instrumentation—including banjo, which is unusual for Colombian pop. Their heartfelt lyrics and harmonious arrangements have produced hits like “Cómo Te Atreves,” “Besos En Guerra,” and “Cuando Nadie Ve,” earning multiple gold and platinum certifications and collaborations with artists like Juanes. With their energetic live performances and strong songwriting, Morat is considered one of the most influential Latin pop acts of their generation.
