Magic City Hippies originated as a solo street busking project by frontman Robby Hunter in Miami, blending hip-hop covers and originals with a loop pedal setup before evolving into a full trio with multi-instrumentalists Pat Howard on drums and John Coughlin on guitar. Initially performing as the Robby Hunter Band, they released their self-titled debut LP Magic City Hippies in 2013, featuring hits like "Corazón" that propelled them to adopt the album name as their moniker, leading to viral success with the 2015 Hippie Castle EP track "Fanfare" topping Spotify's Global Viral charts. The Miami-based indie-funk outfit has since expanded their psych-pop sound across albums like Modern Animal (2019), Water Your Garden (2022), and the 2025 breakup-themed Enemies, earning festival slots at Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Austin City Limits with their sun-soaked grooves and high-energy live shows.
