Madness is an English ska and pop band from Camden Town, London, formed in 1976, renowned for spearheading the late 1970s and early 1980s 2 Tone ska revival alongside acts like The Specials. With original members including Graham "Suggs" McPherson (vocals), Mike Barson (keyboards), Chris Foreman (guitar), Lee Thompson (saxophone), Mark Bedford (bass), Chas Smash (trumpet/vocals), and Dan Woodgate (drums), they achieved 15 UK Top 10 singles such as "One Step Beyond," "Baggy Trousers," "Our House," "House of Fun" (their lone UK number one), and "It Must Be Love," blending upbeat ska rhythms with witty, observational lyrics about working-class life. Despite lineup shifts and a 1986 hiatus, six classic members reformed in 1992, sustaining a prolific career with albums like Wonderful (1999) and The Return of the Los Palmas 7 (2012), ongoing tours, and enduring popularity in the UK ska scene.
