Machine Girl is an American electronic music project created by Matt Stephenson in 2012, which evolved into a duo when percussionist Sean Kelly joined in 2015. Known for their intense, genre-blending sound that combines elements of electronic music, punk, breakcore, and industrial, Machine Girl has been described as "fucked-up electronic punk" by Stephenson himself.
Their music often features politically charged lyrics and samples criticizing capitalism while exploring themes of mental health, gender identity, and sexuality. The project, named after a 2008 Japanese film, has released several studio albums, EPs, and compilations, gaining recognition for their unpredictable and energetic live performances. Machine Girl's unique sound and style have allowed them to navigate various music scenes, from DIY venues to major festivals, and they've even toured with acts like 100 Gecs.
