Julien Baker, born on September 29, 1995, in Memphis, Tennessee, is an acclaimed American indie rock musician known for her introspective lyrics and emotive sound. She first gained recognition with her debut album Sprained Ankle in 2015, released while she was still a student at Middle Tennessee State University. The album received widespread critical acclaim, establishing her as a significant voice in the indie music scene.
Baker's follow-up albums, Turn Out the Lights (2017) and Little Oblivions (2021), further showcased her evolution as an artist, with the latter featuring a fuller band sound and achieving top 40 status on the Billboard 200. In addition to her solo work, she is a member of the indie supergroup Boygenius, alongside Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus, with their debut album released in March 2023. Baker's music often explores themes of faith, mental health, and personal struggle, resonating deeply with listeners and earning her multiple Grammy nominations.
