Gojira is a French metal band formed in 1996 in Bayonne, originally named Godzilla before changing to Gojira in 2001 due to legal constraints. The band features brothers Joe Duplantier (vocals, rhythm guitar) and Mario Duplantier (drums), alongside Christian Andreu (lead guitar) and Jean-Michel Labadie (bass). Known for their progressive and technical death metal sound, Gojira's lyrics often explore ecological, spiritual, and philosophical themes. Their critically acclaimed albums, such as From Mars to Sirius (2005), Magma (2016), and Fortitude (2021), have earned them global recognition, including Grammy nominations. Renowned for their explosive live performances, Gojira has toured extensively with major acts like Metallica and Slipknot. In 2024, they made history as the first metal band to perform at the Olympics, showcasing their innovative artistry on a global stage.
