Erasure is an English synth-pop duo formed in London in 1985, consisting of lead vocalist Andy Bell and keyboardist-songwriter Vince Clarke, who was previously a founding member of Depeche Mode and part of Yazoo. The band broke through with their fourth single "Sometimes" in 1986 and went on to become one of the most successful acts in British pop, achieving 24 consecutive UK Top 40 singles from 1986 to 2007 and earning the Brit Award for Best British Group in 1989. Known for their melodic, catchy pop songs and Bell's distinctive vocals, Erasure released acclaimed albums such as The Innocents, Wild!, and Chorus, and are especially remembered for hits like "A Little Respect" and "Chains of Love." Their music, influenced by acts like OMD, Kraftwerk, and ABBA, has made them enduring icons in synth-pop, celebrated for both their chart success and their pioneering openness around LGBTQ+ themes in mainstream pop music.
