corto.alto signed with Ninja Tune for records.

corto.alto is managed by Bridge The Gap & booked by outer/most/Avalanche Music Agency.

corto.alto is the genre-blending music project led by Glasgow-based multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer Liam Shortall, who has been described as a traditional jazz head raised in the age of the internet. Drawing on his Irish-Spanish heritage (the moniker "corto.alto" meaning "short.tall" in Spanish as a pun on his surname), Shortall fuses jazz improvisation with electronic production, broken beat, and bass-heavy dub, creating a fresh and iconoclastic sound that challenges the boundaries of contemporary jazz. His debut album, Bad With Names, released in October 2023, was shortlisted for the 2024 Mercury Prize and features collaborations with some of the UK’s finest young jazz musicians, including Fergus McCreadie, James Copus, and Graham Costello. Championed by tastemakers like Gilles Peterson and Jamie Cullum, and supported by major platforms such as BBC 6 Music and Spotify, corto.alto has gained recognition for both studio innovation and energetic live performances at major festivals, marking Shortall as a leading figure in the new wave of UK jazz.
