Charley Crockett, born Matthew Charles Crockett on March 24, 1984, is an American blues, country, and Americana singer-songwriter known for his distinctive "Gulf & Western" sound. Raised in Texas, Crockett began his musical journey by busking in the French Quarter of New Orleans and Deep Ellum, Dallas, before eventually releasing his debut album "A Stolen Jewel" in 2015. He has since released twelve studio albums, including the critically acclaimed "The Man From Waco" in 2022, which Rolling Stone named the #2 best Country album of the year. Crockett's unique vocal style, described by the Wall Street Journal as a blend of Ernest Tubb's honky-tonk, Bill Withers' soulful crooning, and jazzy French Quarter swagger, has earned him recognition from NPR, CMT, and Rolling Stone. His latest album, "$10 Cowboy," released in 2024, continues to showcase his raw, personal storytelling and live-to-tape recording approach, solidifying his position as a leading figure in the revival of traditional country and folk music.
