Chappell Roan, born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz on February 19, 1998, in Willard, Missouri, is an American pop singer-songwriter celebrated for her theatrical, camp-infused style and her unapologetically queer persona. Rising from a conservative Midwestern upbringing, Roan began her career by uploading covers and original songs to YouTube as a teenager, which led to a deal with Atlantic Records in 2015. After being dropped by the label in 2020, she persisted through setbacks, eventually signing with Amusement, an imprint of Island Records, and collaborating closely with producer Dan Nigro. Roan's debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess (2023), received critical acclaim and developed a cult following, with singles like "Good Luck, Babe!", "Pink Pony Club," and "Hot To Go!" achieving international chart success. Known for her exuberant live performances, advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights, and distinctive blend of disco, synth-pop, and rock, Roan emerged as a breakout star in 2024, winning Best New Artist at the 67th Grammy Awards and solidifying her status as a bold, innovative voice in contemporary pop music.
