Buju Banton, born Mark Anthony Myrie on July 15, 1973, in Kingston, Jamaica, is a legendary dancehall, ragga, and reggae singer who has profoundly influenced Jamaican music. Raised in the Salt Lane neighborhood as the youngest of 16 children, he began his musical career at age 13 under the alias "Gargamel" and released his first single "The Ruler" in 1987. In 1992, he broke Bob Marley's record for the most #1 singles in a year with hits like "Bogle" and "Love Me Browning," establishing himself as a dominant force in Jamaican music.
