Balu Brigada is a New Zealand indie rock and alt-pop duo from Auckland, formed in 2016 by multi-instrumentalist brothers Henry Beasley (lead vocals/guitar) and Pierre Beasley (keyboards/bass/vocals), evolving from an initial four-piece lineup that included their brother Charles on drums and friend Guy Harrison on bass until lineup changes streamlined them into a tight-knit creative unit. Originally named Baloo (a nod to Disney's Jungle Book bear) but renamed to sidestep legal issues, they debuted with singles "Weekend" and "Ricochet," signed with Warner Music Australia/Atlantic Records in 2022 after relentless local gigs, and relocated to New York City, releasing EPs I Should Be Home (2022) and Find a Way (2023), a compilation Balu (2024), and their debut album Portal on August 29, 2025. Drawing from a family immersed in the arts—their dad a dancer, mom an actress/musician—the brothers blend infectious grooves, synth-heavy production, and influences like Frank Ocean and Tame Impala, gaining global traction opening for Twenty One Pilots on their Clancy tour and building hype with hits like "Moon Man" and "Medicine."
