Amanda Shires is a Grammy Award-winning American singer-songwriter, fiddle player, and multi-instrumentalist known for her evocative songwriting and distinctive contributions to the Americana, country, and folk music scenes. Born in Lubbock, Texas, she began playing the fiddle at age 10 and, by 15, was performing with the legendary Texas Playboys. Shires has released a series of critically acclaimed solo albums, including Take It Like a Man (2022), praised for its bold, candid lyrics, and she is the founder of the acclaimed supergroup The Highwomen, alongside Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, and Natalie Hemby. Her collaborations span artists such as John Prine and Jason Isbell—her former husband—and she has received honors including a Grammy for her work with Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit and Emerging Artist of the Year from the Americana Music Association. Shires is recognized not only for her musical talent but also for her fearless, personal storytelling and commitment to pushing genre boundaries.
