Alice Phoebe Lou is a South African singer-songwriter based in Berlin, Germany, known for her ethereal voice and introspective lyrics. Born on July 19, 1993, Lou grew up in Kommetjie, South Africa, where she was influenced by a diverse range of music, including artists like Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen. She began her music career busking in Berlin after moving there at the age of 19, quickly gaining a following for her unique sound. Lou has released five self-funded studio albums, including Orbit (2016), Paper Castles (2019), Glow (2021), Child's Play (2021), and Shelter (2023), along with several EPs and live albums. Her music often blends elements of folk, pop, and alternative, characterized by poetic storytelling and emotional depth. In addition to her solo work, she is also involved in a side project called Strongboi. Lou's dedication to her craft and her independent approach to music have earned her critical acclaim and a loyal fanbase, making her a prominent figure in the contemporary music scene.
