Ali Sethi, born on July 2, 1984, in Lahore, Pakistan, is a prominent Pakistani-American singer, songwriter, and author known for his innovative contributions to music that blend traditional South Asian sounds with contemporary influences. Sethi's musical journey began in earnest after he graduated from Harvard College in 2006, when he trained in Hindustani classical music under esteemed mentors such as Ustad Naseeruddin Saami and Farida Khanum.
He gained significant recognition with his song "Dil Jalaane Ki Baat" featured in the film The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2012), which marked his entry into the music industry. Sethi's collaboration on the viral hit "Pasoori" in 2022 further solidified his status, making it the first Pakistani song to reach Spotify's "Viral 50 - Global" chart. His performances on Coke Studio Pakistan have also garnered critical acclaim, showcasing his ability to reinterpret classical and folk music for modern audiences while earning him a spot on TIME magazine's TIME100 Next list in 2022.
