Ásgeir Trausti Einarsson, known simply as Ásgeir, is an Icelandic singer-songwriter celebrated for his blend of indie folk and atmospheric pop, marked by intimate and soulful songwriting. Emerging from the small village of Laugarbakki, he gained fame with his 2012 debut album Dýrð í dauðaþögn, which became the fastest-selling debut album in Icelandic history, with around one in ten Icelanders owning a copy. The album’s lyrics were penned by his father, Einar Georg Einarsson, a poet and retired professor, imbuing Ásgeir’s music with rustic, Nordic imagery. He later released an English-language version, In the Silence (2014), aided by American singer John Grant in translation and production, achieving international success across Europe and beyond. Ásgeir has continued to evolve his sound with albums like Bury the Moon (2020) and Time on My Hands (2022), exploring personal themes of relationships, aging, and hope, while earning critical acclaim and a strong devoted following both in Iceland and worldwide.
