Freddie Gibbs, born Fredrick Jamel Tipton on June 14, 1982, in Gary, Indiana, is a prominent American rapper known for his intricate lyricism and versatile musical style. He began his career in the mid-2000s, initially signing with Interscope Records but facing setbacks when his debut album was canceled. Gibbs later joined Young Jeezy's CTE World label in 2011, releasing several well-received mixtapes, including Baby Face Killa (2012). After parting ways with CTE, he founded his own label, ESGN, and released his debut studio album of the same name in 2013. His collaborations with producer Madlib on projects like Piñata (2014) and Bandana (2019) received critical acclaim and solidified his reputation in the hip-hop community. In 2020, he released Alfredo, produced by The Alchemist, which earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album. Known for his storytelling ability and unflinching honesty, Gibbs has navigated various public feuds and controversies while maintaining a dedicated fanbase. His latest album, You Only Die 1nce, released on November 1, 2024, features introspective tracks that reflect on his experiences in the music industry and personal life, showcasing his resilience and evolution as an artist.
